Where the Huck?! - Mt.Baker, United States
Tucked below the Canadian Border, 2 hours south of Vancouver, BC. Is a big mountain surrounded by a small town. Here, Mt.Baker is kept sacred by a single lane, switch-back road and a fish bowl of snowy peaks. This naturally rugged, open concept resort brings back the joy of the local mountain feel. People are friendly, beer is cheap and the chair lines are merely nonexistent.
We visited the mountain in late January to take a break from the usual grind and ever busy Whistler scene. We booked our lodging at Landon's Log Cabin in Mt.Baker's Rim, an awesome community close to the base. Each morning we were fuelled by Wake N' Bakery and we were able to grab some backcountry gear at the local, Glacier Ski Shop.
Although, it hadn't snowed all week, Mt.Baker still had a great base and a soft covering that made biting into turns easy. Laid back lifties, friendly shredders, and a combination of high level athletes and beginners. Something for everyone and definitely worth the loss on the Canadian dollar.
